Interview with Premium Member: RogueCmdr

1.) What is the one thing you love about your community?

Fun and supportive. They enjoy watching myself punish myself repeatedly while playing hardcore survival or difficulty mode games.

2.) How did you get into content creation/gaming?

I was born into it before most people knew what it meant to be called a gamer or it being a term. While everyone barely had Nintendo’s or SNES, I had my own 386 computer where I played the original Star Wars games X-Wing, Tie Fighter or the top-down tactical game Syndicate. Computers in schools were still Apple IIe models, but I preferred to be in there playing Oregon Trail and such (instead of the educational games). In Jr High I learned to program in QBasic on the Apple IIe so I could make text-based games. which never worked.

Having ADHD generation of kids who were had to take daze making prescriptions, games I was able to focus and calm my mind as well as same effect from high adrenaline games like Basketball as a kid (which later turned into paintball as an adult)

3.) What was the best video game and worst video game you have ever played? Why?

Best game – Loaded question, I love games with great mechanics, story and engagement. So on that note, Mass Effect, second being Dragon Age and then Fallout/Elder Scroll games. Worse game – Rage 1 on release – first real truly broken game on release by ID Software before the drama of No Man Sky.

But for me I do Absolutely love playing my modded Space engineers because it takes care of my base building survival needs and the creative needs.

4.) If you could collab with a community or influencer, who would it be?

I strongly want to be collabing more with the Space Engineers community with players such as Splitsie/Cacpac or W4stedSpace and his crew. I want it so much that I am putting a lot on myself to make sure my NPC Mod I am developing for Space Engineers generates some of that attention/interest.

5.) Who inspired you to start creating content or continues to inspire you?

I’ve been streaming for almost over 6 years. I was around before the current big streamers were big but since I worked a career, I never was able to do it full time to make Partner but that is still a dream/goal. DeeJayKnight was one such person I loved to watch and early on helped me become better but I did not get to have the best first meeting I wanted at Twitchcon as he was busy at the time with his many events.

One other thing that keeps me going is a speech that I keep in my intro video which is a centerpiece of my mindset and how I continue, no matter the mental stress, hardship and I feel even today more people should look to it.

It comes from the movie Balboa with Sly Stallone when he as his retired boxer character Rocky Balboa is talking to his adult son. “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are… it will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it. You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit… and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

This speech keeps me going, gets me hyped/pumped and gets me ready every stream to give the best content.

6.) What is something you want people to know about you?

Even though I’ve had a career of working in IT for 17 years, recently being a IT Systems Engineer / Project and Team Lead at Amazon, I also worked as a bouncer, security, and a Wildland Firefighter in college. I had one time tried to pursue becoming a firefighter but did not want to be in EMT.

In Highschool I aspired to be in the Navy, but I ended up moving my senior year which happened to be 9/11 and at the time recruiters then had the pick of the best and I wasn’t in shape or mindset to fit what I felt was needed to excel. After Highschool, I had a good friend who knew more about computers than even I did get me into community college and the rest was history.

7.) We have gone 5 years into the future, what does your content look like?

I am hoping my scenes involve more to match my community, the crew of the Stream-ship Andromeda. I am still searching for a great GFX to make my dream intro videos come true.

8.) What advice would you give to the next new creator that you wish you were given?

Don’t tag spam or rt spam.

9.) Hot dog or glizzy?

Only ever heard them called hard dogs. I’m west coast AZ born.

10.) Finally, if you were any animal, what would you be and why?

I am an animal lover but every game where I have some type of functional pet (pet that helps in combat or something) is usually a wolf of some sort. I loved the movie Beastmaster as a kid and the movie LadyHawk and when I wished I had those abilities, I always saw myself being able to summon or be a wolf and talk or see from a Hawk/Eagle type bird.
