1.) How did you get involved with esports and the gaming org scene?
I became seriously involved in the esports org scene in 2020 with a team named Pryde. I was getting my foot in the door by being Pryde’s creative director and headlining a talented graphic design team. I was connected with members of the team well before I joined and I was friends with multiple members and that is how I got asked to become a member of Pryde back in November 2020. After that I joined a team as the Creative Director composed of some past Pryde members named Limitless. Limitless has a lasting impact in the esports scene because of our resolve, work ethic and talented team members.
2.) Were you a gamer first before your current career path or did you become one after?
I was a gamer at a very young age, I was playing on old computer games when I was around 3 years old and then I got my first console. The original Xbox has meant a great deal to me and is what kick started my true passion for gaming.
3.) What was the best video game and worst video game you have ever played? Why?
This one is an extremely hard question because I have multiple games that change hands with my favourite of all time. I will choose 2 that come to mind right away. I really enjoy Fable the Lost Chapters on the original Xbox as well as more recently I’ve played God of War (2005). Those games, although the graphics aren’t the greatest in today’s standards, the storyline is what moved me and what continues to reel me into the gaming space.
The worst game I’ve ever played has to be Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022). The last Call of Duty game I enjoyed was Black Ops Cold War in 2021 and I haven’t really properly played a Call of Duty game since. The campaign’s layout was changed and it impacted the storyline for me. The campaigns are always something special, take the original Black Ops games for example. Those campaigns’ stories are some of the best in the franchise and the layout and gameplay was perfect then. It’s a “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” scenario for me and both the campaign and multiplayer modes fell flat tremendously for me for every game after Black Ops Cold War.
4.) If you could collab with a brand, community, or influencer, who would it be?
I would like to collaborate with Elgato in some shapes or forms. I’ve always wanted to have Elgato present in my workflow on a deeper level and I’ve definitely made the effort for something like that in the past. It never came to fruition but I can completely understand as the space has so many incredible creators and those that create consistently.
I would say a past version of Syth who was a content machine back then would absolutely love to partner and collaborate with Elgato.
5.) You have worked with some well-known brands in this space, how did you get your foot in the door?
I got my foot in the door when I first got onto social media back in 2017. I first started my craft and self-teaching myself how to create content, edit it and to do graphic design on top of it back in 2016 just before my freshman year in high school. When I created a twitter account in the fall of 2017 I was doing graphic design work for free and working long hours just to create my reputation and to learn.
I was networking and doing free work for a very long time before things would get more serious and when I wanted it to be an actual job for myself. The best way I can describe it is to market yourself as if you’re the product and to constantly connect and talk to people in the same space as you. Be passionate, be humble and learn.
6.) To creators who have followed or seen your success, how do they follow in your footsteps?
I would like to say that I am extremely lucky to be where I am and I could give all the advice in the world but it’d never be the same experience for others. To get into a similar space as I am in right now, you have to love what you do at the end of the day. You have to be able to do long hours talking with people and putting the work in. If you don’t like what you’re doing then you won’t be able to do that at an optimal level.
I got to where I am because I knew what I wanted to do more than 10 years ago and I took the leap and went for it. I got my first properly paid opportunity when I was 6 years deep into my craft, you have to be able to be patient and keep going no matter the circumstances.
7.) How do you continue to find motivation every day/year?
I find motivation through the community, my family and also myself. Even though I have the occasional imposter syndrome and common mental ruts, I’m able to remind myself that I am supposed to be here and I am supposed to do what I am doing right now.
All of the support and comments through the years have kept me going and keeps me going. My parents are super supportive of what I do and I draw from them as well. With that I also acknowledge that I am a very lucky man to have these things and I am very grateful.
8.) What advice would you give to the next new creator that you wish you were given?
The best advice I can give as someone who’s been creating content since 2016 is just be yourself and create what YOU want to create.
I was doing certain videos because they were popular at the time, I was streaming games because they drew in more viewers at the time and that was a huge downfall. If you truly enjoy a game or activity and it’s a space where you can have the energy; laugh; joke; be yourself; go all in.
Another huge piece of advice is put yourself first, I know it sounds selfish at first but it really isn’t. Your community WANTS you to be healthy and to be your best self when you are live. If you sacrifice any part of yourself to show up on stream, you are going to fail and burn out.
Your content and community isn’t going anywhere. Time is scarce. If you give yourself time, your community, streams and your content will give back to you.
9.) You get to go on a vacation anywhere. Where do you go and what’s the first thing you eat/drink?
I’ve never been outside of Canada in my 24 years of being alive. I would love to go to either Scotland or Japan as a vacation. I would love to drink and eat locally of course and truly integrate into the cultures in that way.
10.) Finally, if you were any animal, what would you be and why?
I would love to be a Panda because I just want to be in a big warm coat, chilling and sitting around doing almost nothing haha.
