International Creator Interview – @Xeraimer

1.) How did you get your start into gaming and content creation?  Walk us through your journey

This is going to date me a little bit. I remember being 3 years old and my dad bringing home an N64 with Zelda Ocarina of Time(which to this day is still my all time favourite game) and we played through that together. Him being a young father at the time (I was born when he was 19) his love for Nintendo passed down to me.

As I got older more consoles came into the house, the GameCube, the Wii and eventually the Xbox 360 when I was 12 years old. With Call of Duty 4. Time went on and him and I shared an Xbox, until the release of Modern Warfare 2. That’s when he brought home an Xbox for me, with the game so we could run it together.

Fast forward a little bit longer and Call of Duty Elite was available, and my dad and his friends would sign up for the odd tournament for prizes like headsets, Microsoft points but would come up short. So I saved up my left over lunch money for a month to buy the year of Call of Duty Elite and played with them in these tournaments, winning headsets, and Microsoft points. That’s when my dad’s best friend gave me the idea. That I should start creating content. Now I didn’t start right then and there because my parents wanted me to focus on school.

I made a promise to him, that I would, he passed away a few months later. I kept my promise and being from a very small town (3,000 population) with an average age of 70 there wasn’t many places to get a capture card. So when I went off to university 3 years later. I snagged a capture card and laptop and started my journey. Everything I do, and everything I have done is all for Steven.

2.) How do you find time to balance your offline passions with your online content creation?

It’s tough, between working, content creation and golf it’s very hard to balance the rest of my life but I make it work. Typically I use the later parts of evenings to stream. During golf season I typically go out whenever the people I golf with want to go, and I adjust my stream time accordingly if those were to coincide. I also do bring a tripod with me to attach my phone just in case I wanted to mix the two together.

Whether that be streaming the round, or making TikToks I try to find a balance in which I can still do both, whilst going to work. Especially with wanting to play in the Canadian Amateur sometime soon I let the gaming side of content creation slow down during the season to really put more time and effort into perfecting my game.

3.) What are some of the obstacles you have run into and how have you worked on getting past them?

Being a smaller creator isn’t easy, it comes with people shaming you for your view counts, looks etc. Which early on can really affect a creator. It bothered me, and to this day there’s still people who doubt me. That’ll always be an obstacle, but the biggest obstacle has always been self doubt.

Both online and on the course I beat myself up. Especially on the course where I know what I can do. What I’m capable of, but as I have gotten older when you’re struggling self doubt only makes it worse. As I worked on my golf game I realized golf and content creation are very similar. You are your own worst enemy. Negative thoughts on the course leads to self doubt which makes the round spiral down.

The same thing happens with content creation. Don’t get in your own head, hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard. Develop a champion mindset and obstacles no longer exist. They just become reasons to work harder.

4.) When you aren’t gaming – what is it you enjoy doing?

When I’m not gaming I enjoy spending my time at the golf course or golf sim depending on the time of year, or being out with my Fiancée. Sometimes taking trips to spend the day with head mod (shoutout to Jay).

5.) Final question – If you could change the ending to one game or movie, which game/movie and how would you change it?

This one’s tough, but I would really like to see Transformers Dark of the Moon end differently.

If you haven’t seen The Last Knight, spoiler alert. It’s mentioned that Burton is the last of the Order of the Witwiccans. We don’t see Sam in Transformers after Dark of the Moon. Which putting these two clues together it is implied that Sam is dead.

So I’d change the ending to Dark of the Moon to showcase that. As let’s face it, killing a character off screen and implying it in a later movie really sucks
